Elon Musk, the man behind Tesla, X, and SpaceX, dropped a bombshell in an interview, predicting that AI will outsmart humans by the end of next year and surpass all human capabilities within five years. He's been pretty confident about this whole artificial general intelligence thing, even though his past predictions, like self-driving Teslas and landing rockets on Mars, haven't all come to fruition. But the AI scene has been buzzing with breakthroughs lately, speeding things up.
"Last year it was chip constraint...People could not get enough NVIDIA chips. This year it's transitioning to a voltage transformer supply. In a year or two it's just electricity supply" He stated.
Apparently, there's been a hiccup in the form of a microchip shortage, especially the ones made by Nvidia, which are crucial for training AI models. Musk says the scarcity is easing, but now there are other hurdles like voltage transformers and electricity supply.
Despite his previous calls for a timeout on advanced AI, Musk's own AI startup, xAI, is charging ahead, training a new version of its model called Grok, which they reckon will outshine even the mighty GPT-4. They're aiming to have it ready by May.
